  • From Discord discussion with Tom Voigt:
    • Zodiac's Halloween card is postmarked only one day after the first news report of the death of Nancy Bennallack
    • Tom was asked not to mention "one of the items" related to Nancy and the Halloween card.
    • "a foreign substance added to the card, plus a confirmed letter from Z apparently referring to nancy"
    • "there are apparently three confirmed Zodiac letters not made public, and all have something to do with Sacramento"
    • "DMV letter, Nancy letter, and I can't remember the third"

  • Detectives active on Zodiac case, per Tom Voigt
    • Detective Terry Schillinger is temporarily out with an injury at Vallejo PD so Detective Josh Caitham has the case for now.
    • Dax West at the Solano County Sheriff's Department.
    • Napa County has a cold case unit.
    • Gianrico Pierucci was working the case in retirement for SFPD last I heard.

  • Tom's summary of DNA evidence in Cheri Jo Bates case
    • A mitochondrial DNA profile was created based on what was found in Cheri's hand. No match has been found and I don't believe they are looking.
    • More recently a nuclear DNA profile was created based on the blood found on her pants. The result? It was not foreign DNA.
    • Nuclear DNA can't be compared to mitochondrial DNA.

  • Tom Voigt discloses DNA-related information from unnamed sources.
    • The testing of Zodiac evidence produced a DNA profile. That's the good news. The bad news? The profile belonged to an individual who could not have been the Zodiac killer. That's as specific as I can be. One possibility is the profile belongs to an accomplice. Or an unknowing contributor not involved in the crimes. A major complication is during the Zodiac era, a popular form of civil disobedience was to reuse stamps. All of that is under consideration and the process is continuing.
    • The original sample (2002) was of a male and still could belong to the actual Zodiac although it was not located where one would have preferred. (Link)

2021-12-01: Mike Morford received details from a Lake Berryessa witness. (link 1) (link 2)

    • Hi Mike, Yes I am THAT ******* a possible witness to the Lake Berryessa killer. I guess maybe some statute of limitations has expired because I've had a few people contact me. My identity and testimony at the time was under the agreement of secrecy as for years I was in fear of being identified and at risk. Obviously that criminal must be long dead by now. You didn't name the photo of the man you sent. And of course, 50 years on, I don't know. There are several photos I have been sent that look like the man I saw. Yes the photo you included very much looks like the man I saw, but your photo shows him quite heavy, and the man I saw was thin. A Frenchman has 'identified' the killer as Lawrence Kane, and the photo is similar to my identikit but I don't feel it's him. There is a 1950s photo of Arthur Leigh Allen, and that 50s photo is very strongly similar to who I saw. Photos of Gary Francis Poste show no resemblance. So there's no real answer I can provide. The man I saw stalked 3 of us girls and followed us to the lake. We sunbathed on the cove right next to where the killings took place, and left an hour or so before the attacks began. The man followed us to the shoreline and observed us from the trees. That's about all I can offer. Good luck with your research!

  • Mike Morford says Ken Narlowe described to him the knife Hartnell saw: "weapon desc as a large knife, blade apprx 12 in long and 1 inch wide wooden handle with two brass rivets, could have been a bayonet. nothing further" (source)
